Summer of 2010 was as good as it gets for the establishment of trees in Hawke’s Bay! 236mm of rain fell since 1 January to continue the great start the young trees got from a wet spring. Some watering was required in early January but after a few days the heavens opened up and no more watering was needed.
As the trees planted in 2008 have grown and become more noticeable and it is possible to visualize the striking impression these trees will make on the landscape in only a few years time. Although some losses were experienced, the successful planting in 2009 will make a real impact.
June 2010 will see further planting of the native reserve and the post planting care of these trees which will complete the three year planting programme. Further infilling of plants will be carried out over the coming few years as the original plants become more established.
